Robert L. Frye passed away July 13, 2022, at home, surrounded by family. Born December 31, 1926 in Allensville, Ohio, he is survived by his children Sheryl Shockley (Mark), Lesley Dorsey, and Angela Keating(Michael). Grandchildren, Matthew Shockley (Kim), Adam Shockley, Jake Shockley (Shelby), Nicolas Frye(Graham), Lindsey Forshey (Danny), Drew Keene (Bridget), Amber Dorsey, Ashton Sorrells (Patrick) and Trent Dorsey (Carrie). Great Grandchildren, Skylar Frye, Hailey Lamar, Ethan Shockley, Tanner Shockley, Ryan Forshey, Adalynn Keene, Lily Frye, Caroline Shockley, Mary Katherine Frye, John Worth Shockley, William Shockley and newly born Harper Ann Dorsey.
Bob's extended family who are dearly loved, his caregivers for the past 5 years, Theadora Sumbry and Morgan Moore.
Bob was predeceased by his wife of 63 and a half years, Lillian Louise Frye, son Mark O. Frye, infant twin daughters Dora and Leffie Frye, parents Porter and Leffie Bell Frye, brothers Glynneth Frye, Bruce Frye, and sister Alice Louise Rannells.
At seventeen years of age, Bob enlisted into the US Navy, fulfilled his basic training at Great Lakes in Michigan then was deployed to the WWII Pacific Campaign, where he served aboard the USS Converse DD509. After his service in the Navy, Bob moved back to McArthur, Ohio and attended Ohio University in Athens, OH. He was also in the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternal organization at OU. After graduating from college, he went to Quantico for his FBI training, then Miami, Fl. to Mobile, Al. Most of his professional career was spent as a Senior Resident Agent. His posts included Selma, Alabama from 1956 to 1970 and Montgomery, Alabama from 1970 until his retirement in 1980. After retiring from the FBI, Bob worked for the Montgomery County District Attorney Jimmy Evans as an Investigator in the White-Collar Crime Unit and moved to the Alabama Attorney General's Office when Jimmy Evans was elected to that office. Bob was an avid golfer and loved Alabama athletics. He also loved building furniture in his wood shop. Bob and Lily loved to spend time at their house on Lake Martin as well as boating across the Lake. Bob enjoyed a large family and life, and to many he was larger than life. He has joined his loving wife Lily in heaven to watch over us all.
A Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for Monday June 18 at 2:00pm at Queen of Mercy with a family and friends visitation one hour prior in the Parish Hall. A Graveside Service is scheduled for 3:30pm at Greenwood Serenity Gardens.
The family extends their special thanks to Dr. Joel C. Bolen MD, Jackson Hospital and Amedisis Hospice.
