He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles L. Brooks and Mary Elizabeth Brooks; a sister-in-law, Jakie Pepper and a niece, Frances Pearce.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia “Pat” Brooks; daughters, Michele Fischer of San Antonio, TX and Tara (Keith) Horton of Sherwood, AR; 5 grandchildren, Tanner, Brayden and Seth Johnson and Sydney and Paige Fischer; a brother, Charles Brooks of Tallahassee, FL; brothers-in-law, Randy (Jill) Pearce of Tallahassee, FL, John (Meredith) Pearce of Indian Harbour Beach, FL and Ronald (Natalie) Pepper of Alpharetta, GA; 17 very special nieces and nephews and 27 very special great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mr. Brooks was a graduate of Florida State University and had a very diverse career that spanned 29 years as a pilot in the United States Air Force, including service during the Viet Nam War. After retiring from the Air Force, he served for 8 years in the Civil Air Patrol in various capacities.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Alabama Heritage Funeral Home with Chaplain Charles Locklin, (Col., USAF retired), officiating. Visitation will be from 1 – 2 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow the service in Alabama Heritage Cemetery.
