

Richard Lyod Garnett was born in Hale County Alabama on June 2, 1929, the son of Loyd Garnett and Grace Garnett, and passed from this life in his home on February 1, 2018. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at 2:00 pm with Reverends Rhon Carleton and Jim Salminen officiating. Visistation will be one hour prior to the service with a private burial following the service at Alabama Heritage Cemetery. Richard was happily married to Jean Garnett for 69 years and is survived by his two daughters, Sandra A. Garnett of Montgomery, Glenda S. Flores of San Jose, CA, three grandchildren, Albert Flores, Jr. (Doemiko), Carley Flores, Catherine Flores, and two great grandchildren, Miriam Flores and Thomas Flores. He is also survived by two sisters, Afton Morton (James) of Wetumpka, Barbara Pemberton of Tallassee, and a brother, William Garnett of Eclectic.
Richard retired from Sears Roebuck and Company after 43 1/2 years and had been promoted to executive positions with District and Regional responsibilities. Richard and Jean moved to Montgomery in 1992 and became a long time member of Frazer Memorial United Methodist Church and the Sowers Sunday School Class where he served in many positions of leadership. Additionally, he was active as a Gideon and in the Central Alabama Walk to Emmaus. His favorite pastime was writing odes about the people he loved and admired.
