Nell Prescott

Jessie Nell Custred Prescott, 97, a longtime resident of Montgomery, passed away peacefully at home on October 26, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Milton and Nellie Corn Custred, siblings, Bill and Jane, and great grandson, Logan. She is survived by her husband of nearly 77 years, Dr. Cecil Herman Prescott Jr, her daughters, Cecilia Prescott Fortson (Allen), Cynthia Prescott Salmon (Thad), and Carolyn Prescott Dean (Michael), grandchildren Carrie, Susan, James, Emily, Michael, Ashley, and great grandchildren Julie, Katie, Lorelei, Mary, and Noelle.

Nell was born in Birmingham, Alabama on April 22, 1926. They met at church, became engaged at the brink of WW2, and married after Cecil’s return from the Navy. Nell helped with the nursery at First Baptist Church for many years, and was active with the local medical auxiliary. She loved to sing while Cecil played the piano at their home, and was a great supporter of Cecil’s music groups, the Upbeats and Recreators. Nell was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. Her bright eyes and sweet smile will be missed.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Leak Memory Chapel on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside service will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham at 2:00 p.m.
