Myrtie Beatrice House Payne, age 99, passed away Thursday, April 26, 2018. She was the daughter of Geneva Beatrice (Bell) and Kenelm Leggett House. Myrtie grew up in Ramer, Alabama and graduated from Ramer High School where she was selected May Queen and starred in many school plays and productions. Myrtie married the love of her life, Robert Stone Payne, Sr., in 1939 and they had been married 38 years when he passed away in 1977. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Stone Payne, Jr. (Brenda) and David House Payne, (Margaret), three grandsons, Robert Stone Payne, III, Jeffery Allen Payne, Arthur David Payne, one granddaughter, Jennifer Payne Hood, four great grandchildren, Merritt MacKinnon Payne, Davis Payne Hood, Olivia Margaret Hood and Emma Virginia Hood. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families all of whom she loved dearly. Myrtie was an active member of Normandale Baptist Church and then McGehee Road Baptist Church serving as Senior Adult Sunday School Director and active in their Senior Adult Programs. She used her skills and talents as a seamstress to produce beautiful crocheted and handmade booties and daygowns for her family and also selling these items at local stores and crafts fair. Many babies in the surrounding area were dressed in her creations over the years. Myrtie will be remembered with love and joy and will be greatly missed by all.
A memorial service will be held, Wednesday, April 30, 2018, at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, Perry Street, Montgomery, Alabama. Graveside services will be at 1:00 pm that day at Oakwood Cemetery, Montgomery, Alabama. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons and nephews, Adrian DeWitt Cowles, Richard White Colby, and William Carlton House.
