Mildred Elaine Johnson Spearman was born in Evergreen Alabama on February 5th, 1938 to Bertha and Joseph Johnson and was the fifth of six children. She graduated from Evergreen High School in 1956 and married her life-long sweet heart, Jack Ray Spearman, one week later. They shared 42 wonderful years before Jack passed on in 1999. Mildred is predeceased by both her mother and father as well as her sister, Mary Ellen Majors, and two of her brothers, Leslie Johnson and Bill Johnson, wife Phyllis. She is survived by three brothers, Melvin Johnson, wife Ramona, Jerry Johnson, wife Maxine, and Ronnie Johnson, wife Tracy, and one sister Carol Bolen, husband Harry, as well as her children Karen Spearman Stacy , husband Mike, Michael Spearman, Connie Swanson, husband Robin, and Margie Duncan, husband Don. Grandchildren are Ashley, Reid, and Cole Swanson, Cory Spearman, wife Shayna, Mika Stacy Pharez, husband Zach, Kristy, BJ and Alex Russell, Mitch and Kendall Duncan, and 7 Great Grandchildren, and a host of extended family.
During she and Jack’s life together, they served as foster parents to 42 children. She was a “Mom” to many. She was blessed to be reunited with several of them including Hope and Angie. She was a member of the Community of Christ and served in the Women’s Auxillary of the United Postal Service. She was an accomplished seamstress and her hobbies included gardening and quilting.
Mildred was loved by many (including Precious Kami) and will be missed greatly! In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in her name to Leukemia Lymphoma Foundation or Hope Lodge in Birmingham, Alabama. Funeral services will be held at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, April 25, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. with Elder Michael Stacy and Elder Robin Swanson officiating. Burial will follow in Alabama Heritage Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 – 1 p.m. prior to the service.Condolences may be offered at www.alabamaheritagefh.com.
