Maureen Curphey Brown died at home peacefully, surrounded by family, on April 16, 2021. Maureen was born June 17, 1946 in Cleveland, OH. She moved to Birmingham, AL in her youth, where she graduated from Shades Valley High School and performed with the Town & Gown Theatre Company. She later graduated from Auburn University, while starring in many productions in their theater department. At Auburn, she met her husband of 52 years, Donald Charles Brown. After living in Georgia and Japan during Don’s active duty service in the USAF, the couple settled in Montgomery where she lived the rest of her life.
Maureen was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Tom and Margaret Curphey. She is survived by her husband, Don; daughters, Rachel Brown McCoig (Jeremiah) and Margaret Brown Fox (James); son, Keith Pennington Brown (Angie); grandchildren, Christopher Brady Lassiter, Emma Madison Fox, Virginia Layne Fox, Samuel Keith Brown, Luke Edward Brown, and Andrew Thomas Brown; her brothers, Richard Curphey (Gail) and Tom Curphey (Jini); as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
Maureen delighted in her community. She was a mentor in youth programs and a volunteer for multiple civic organizations. She was vibrant, caring, funny, and most of all, a loving wife, mother and grandmother to her family. Visitation will begin at 1pm, followed by a memorial service at 2pm, both at First United Methodist Church on Thursday, April 22. Masks are requested. Interment services will be held privately with family at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Respite Ministry (FUMC Montgomery).
