Mary Knapp was born March 17,1917, in Elmore County, Al and grew up in the Redhill area, south of Lake Martin. Her parents were Mary Lou and Neven Kennedy. She had 7 brothers and sisters: Lois Warren, Irving Kennedy, Dalton Kennedy, Rena Formby, Jim Kennedy, Hobson Kennedy and Tom Kennedy, all deceased.
After she graduated from Elmore County High School, she took a train to Washington, D.C. to live with her sister, Lois Warren and to find a job. She had many part time jobs and ended up working for the United States government. She met her husband, Robert Knapp in Washington, D.C.. at a square dance. They married in 1940 and lived in Bethesda, Md. for 29 years. When her husband retired, they moved to Lake Martin, AL. After her husband died in 1971, she worked for the Bank of Tallassee as a teller. She retired in 1980 and moved to Deltona, FI., where she made many friends, enjoyed traveling and church life.
She is pre-deceased by her husband, Robert Knapp; grandson, Rob Rodenberg and son-in-law, Jim Rodenberg. Survivors include her daughter, Bobbi Rodenberg and son, Richard Knapp as well as handful of nieces and nephews: Robert Formby, Louise Davis, Glenda Sanders, Virginia Estes, Ouida Wright, Angela Payne.
A graveside service for Mrs. Knapp will be held Monday, July 29, 2019 at 10 AM at Refuge Baptist Church in Tallassee, Alabama.
