Colonel Mary Bobbie Greene, 80, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2012 in Montgomery, Alabama following a lengthy illness. She was born in Caledonia, MS and graduated from Caledonia High School in 1950. After graduating from Baptist School of Nursing, she entered into the US Air Force in 1955 as a 2nd Lt. She was stationed at many bases stateside, as well as Japan, South Africa and Korat, Thailand. She received her BS Degree at the University of Alabama and a Double Masters from Syracuse University in Education and Administration. Bobbie taught nursing and education, served as a flight nurse and as Chief Nurse at two separate assignments. She retired in 1978 as a full Colonel and made her home in Montgomery, Alabama. She was the owner and operator of Hickory House and Capitol Stockyard Restaurants. Bobbie was a member of the Retired Air Force Nurses Association and a member of Frazer Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents Millard and Bessie Greene, her brother, Millard E. (Ruth) Greene, Jr.; sister, Lois (Louis) Harper; sister, Mertie (Raymond) Fields; brother-in-law, Billy Oswalt; and nephew, Ricky Harper. She is survived by her sister, Linda (Kent) Oswalt Fultz; and her faithful friend, Sandra Haynes; 10 nieces and nephews, as well as many longtime, loving and close friends. A funeral service will be at Leak Memory Chapel in Montgomery, AL on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior to the service. A second service will be Wednesday, March 21, at Lowndes Funeral Home in Columbus, MS, with visitation at 10:00 am and funeral services at 11:00 am. Burial will follow with full military honors being rendered in Friendship Cemetery, Columbus, MS.
