Mary Lynn Brooks died on Sunday, November 18, 2019 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, just weeks after her 96th birthday. She is survived by her granddaughters, Alison Tuley Shaw (Scott) and Claire Therese Tuley, both of Chattanooga, Tennessee; two great-grandsons, Morgan Brooks Shaw and McClain Stewart Shaw; son-in-law and daughter-in-law, Michael and Therese Tuley; and numerous nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents Eddie Elmer and Carrie Lee Roach; her husband for sixty-three years, Henry Albert Brooks; her daughter, Nadia Brooks Tuley; and her siblings, Eddie Elmer Roach Jr., Annie Christine Henning, and Rebecca R. Nielsen.
Mary Lynn was born in Fowlkes, Tennessee on November 2, 1923. She later moved to her husband Albert’s hometown of Montgomery, where she served her country for almost four decades as a civil service employee of the United States Air Force. She was a member of the Eastern Star, and a faithful congregant of Capitol Heights United Methodist, where she was a dedicated servant to the church in every possible way. Mary Lynn was an avid cook and quilter, and she crisscrossed the country from Alaska to New England on her travelling adventures with Albert. She especially loved spoiling her granddaughters and great-grandsons, and it was such a blessing for them to have their Namma close by when she moved to Chattanooga in 2017. She was a loving, loyal, strong, and feisty woman to the end. The family would like to thank all of Mary Lynn’s caregivers, and especially Ida, Christine, and Christy, for their love and dedication to her. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 22, 2019 at 10:00am at Leak Memory Chapel with a graveside service at 11:00 at Greenwood Cemetery with Rev. Gary Daniel officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Nadia Brooks Tuley Scholarship Fund at Huntingdon College.
