August 3, 1922, in Hartford, Alabama, to Ibbie Estelle (née Ross) and James Mather Brown. After graduating from Geneva County High School, Janette enrolled in nursing school at Moody Hospital
and received her certification from the State of Alabama as a Registered Nurse in November 1944. Just
a few weeks later, Janette married her beloved husband, Charles Ray Butts. Janette and Charles Ray
settled in Montgomery where they raised their family and celebrated 51 years of marriage. Janette continued her nursing career in Montgomery, caring for patients at Lister Hill Clinic until her
retirement. Janette was a devoted daughter and sister, making regular trips to Hartford and “Brown Hill” to visit family and friends. She was a long-time member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, loved reading
and animals. Janette was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ray Butts; her son, Michael Ray Butts; her parents; her brother, William Thelton Brown; and her sister, Betty Sue Paschall. She is survived by her daughter, Marcia Bazzell and husband, Davis; her daughter-in-law, Marie Yancey Butts; her
grandchildren, Emily Sexton, Chip (Amy) Butts and Rob (Jenni) Butts; six great-grandchildren; and her
nieces and nephews to whom she was lovingly “Aunt Net.”
A graveside service will be held on August 16, 2020, at 1:00 pm at Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens.
Friends and family may gather at Leak Memory Chapel at 12:15 before the service.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Janette’s name to the Macon County Humane Society or
the Elmore County Humane Society.
