On May 12, 2022 at 4am in Round Rock, TX, Margaret Rogers, aka “Ganny”, left this world peacefully after 95 wonderful years. With her youngest daughter, Tracy, at her bedside, Margaret entered Heaven, escorted by her own legion of angels. Married to William Thompson (Bill) Rogers III (died 1972), Margaret gave birth to six children; William Thompson (Tom) Rogers IV, (died 1968 in Vietnam age 20), John David Rogers, Mark Randall Rogers (died 1957 from cancer age 3), Marcus Randolph Rogers (Sheila Flewallen), Laura Purnal Smoot (Allen), and Tracylee Miriam Wiley (Mark).
Born in Pine Level, Alabama(the south one) in 1927, Margaret grew up on a farm, the second of five children, to Ernest Eugene and Ruby Ellis Tompkins. Upon moving to Montgomery, she married and had 6 children and suffered the loss of two sons. She then lost her husband Bill to a heart attack and went to work to raise her four remaining children. She retired from the State of Alabama well into her 80’s, still active. Margaret never lost her sweet southern drawl which seemed to fascinate everyone north of Alabama. Her strong Christian faith changed many lives, and her prayers were powerful. It was well known that “Mama” had a special rapport with God and when she prayed, He did indeed listen, and it was evident in her many answered prayers. Everyone loved her, and she loved them back, especially the children. Margaret left us with the assurance that death is not to be feared nor grieved, but celebrated, and so we attempt to do just that, however difficult that may be to those who loved her. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Bill and two children at Emmaus Cemetery in Luverne, Alabama.
Graveside services are set for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2022 with Billy Irvin from Faith Radio officiating. Family and friends will assemble at the graveside.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faith Radio or Eastmont Baptist Church.
