Margaret attended Hubbard Hospital Nursing School and completed her training at Charity Hospital in New Orleans. Her career as an R.N. spanned almost 50 years. In 1945 she married Henry Lewis Pugh in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. They were married for 40 years until his death in 1986. She was a faithful member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church (formerly Forest Avenue) since 1946. Margaret lived a life of service to others as a devoted wife, a loving mother, and through her career as a nurse.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Trudy Helen, brothers Dinkins and Edward Griffin, and a sister, Katherine G. Tomlin. Surviving her are six children; Judy Ellen Pugh, Henry Lewis Pugh, Jr. and his wife Gaylen, Jane Pugh Richardson and her husband Tom, William Talton Pugh, John Barr Pugh, Sally Jill Pugh Murphy and her husband Bryan; seven grandchildren William Thomas Richardson, Jr. and his wife Allison, Sandy R. Brownd and her husband Chris, Katherine Pugh, Jonathan Murphy, Matthew Murphy, Margaret Murphy, Michael Henry Murphy; six great grandchildren, Margaret Adeline Richardson, William Thomas Richardson III, Charlie Brownd, Aaron Brownd, Anna Brownd, Hamilton Brownd; two sisters, Eleanor Griffin, Mary Ellen Knight; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 17 5-7PM at Leak-Memory Funeral Home. Funeral will be Wednesday April 18 at 2PM at Leak Memory Chapel with Rev. Glen Pugh officiating. Internment will be at Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews and grandsons.
Those who wish to remember Margaret in a special way may make memorial gifts to Komen for the Cure, the National Council on Aging, or Aldersgate United Methodist Church. The family wishes to thank especially Dr.William J. Dailey. Special thanks to her caregivers Marie Fannin, Sonya McGough, Dee Dee Richardson, and Constance Chappell who cared for her lovingly.
