Lawrence M. Russo passed away suddenly on August 31, 2021. Larry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend and an amazing man of faith. He was a perpetually optimistic person - a strong, compassionate and selfless man who met everyone with humility and love. He never knew a stranger, shaking hands and praying for everyone he encountered, shining Christ's light. He will always be remembered by those who met him as a hardworking, earnest, loving man who would do anything for anyone. His absence will truly be felt by all who had the joy of knowing him.
Larry was born in Steubenville, Ohio to Benny Russo and Linda Ciancone. He earned his bachelor's degree in Accounting from Ohio Dominican College and an MBA from Xavier University. He married Beth Riddle, and they had two sons: Benjamin and Paul.
Larry worked for Neptune Technology Group in Tallassee, AL for more than 30 years, serving as the Vice President of Finance for the majority of that time.
Together with his wife Beth, Larry worked diligently for his Church community by establishing and running the local Serra Club for over 18 years, serving on the Parish Finance Committee and Pastoral Council, working on the Building Committee for the St. Bede Family Life Center, supporting seminarians, and volunteering as the Parish representative for the annual Catholic Charities campaign. Larry was a faithful adorer of the Blessed Sacrament for over 27 years. He was also bestowed the honor of being named a Knight of St. Gregory by Pope Benedict XVI – an honor given for service to the Holy See, diocese and local parish.
Although he lived in Alabama for the last 32 years, Larry never abandoned his love for Pittsburgh sports teams, with Roberto Clemente and his life of service being his favorite.
Larry loved and supported everything that his grandchildren were involved in, most especially the athletic programs at Montgomery Catholic. He attended every football game, home or away, and was a consistent presence at the many other sporting events his grandchildren participated in. He loved to stand on the fence line and root for all the Catholic players. It made him truly happy to be a part of his grandchildren's lives in this way. He forged strong bonds with his grandchildren through mutual hard work and conversation, time together that will never be forgotten.
Larry is survived by his wife of 45 years Beth, their sons Ben (wife Jubilee, and children Anthony, Dominic, Luca and Nicolas), Paul (wife Allison, and children Michael, Kolbe, Gabriel, Matthew, Anna Maria and Benny). He is also survived by his sisters Elaine Presutti (husband David and children Gia, Gloria and Ashley) and Pam Gambon (husband Tom and children Elena and Thomas Jr) as well as his wife’s sisters and brother; Lori (husband Steve and children Jessica and Jennifer), Amy (children Andy, Jackie and Christopher) and Steve (wife Carol and children Melissa and James).
Because of Larry’s great love for St. Bede and Montgomery Catholic, in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School for the establishment of a need-based scholarship for St. Bede students. Donations may be sent to Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School, 5350 Vaughn Road, Montgomery, AL 36116.
