Pittman, Laura Eleanor Lucas, 80, died peacefully, surrounded by her sons and daughters-in-law, on October 10, 2017 at her home in Montgomery. Laura was born on September 6, 1937 in Roanoke, AL to Robert Nixon and Eleanor Jeffers Lucas.
Laura spent the first part of her life in Roanoke, AL; she and her family then moved to Birmingham, where she graduated from Phillips High School. Upon graduating, Laura attended Huntingdon College. It was at Huntingdon that she met her future husband, Lester “Clyde” Pittman. She and Clyde were married in 1958 at First Baptist Chapel in Birmingham. They remained happily married until Clyde lost his battle with colon cancer in 1974, when they were both 36 years old.
Laura’s passion was her children and grandchildren. She attended nearly all of her grandchildren’s sporting events, music and dance recitals, and any other event with which they were involved. She loved photographing her loved ones doing their various activities; and made many photo collections and scrapbooks with these pictures. Laura also loved all her friends deeply; she enjoyed making these friends, and really anyone, laugh, with her lively stories and witty sense of humor. She enjoyed being a part of the Encouragers Sunday School class at First Baptist, and hearing Jay Wolf’s message each Sunday, often surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Laura is survived by her adoring two sons, Robert Lester “Les”, (Jessica Dilworth), Pittman, Montgomery; Gregory Clyde “Greg”, (Rebekah Boroughs), Pittman, Montgomery; her brother Robert Nixon “Nick” Lucas Jr., Verbena; her seven beloved grandchildren, Mary Ann (16), Emma Marie (15), Lucas Samuel “Luke” (14), Clyde Andrew (12), Payne Lester (10), Charles Robert “Charlie” (8) and Virginia Eleanor (2), all of Montgomery, who will greatly miss their grandmother, whom they lovingly called many nicknames including Nannie, Nana and Ba.
