Larry Earl Sutherland, 81, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on December 28, 2022. Larry was born on September 29, 1941 in Letohatchee, AL. He was a patriot who faithfully served his country in both the US Navy and the Alabama Air National Guard 187th Fighter Wing. He was also a Master Mechanic who previously owned Sutherland's Transmission Service in Montgomery. Larry even made use of these skills and taught Mechanics at John Patterson Technical College (AKA Trenholm). He greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting, making turkey callers and Alabama football. Larry loved to garden and play with Willie, his Labrador Retriever who preceded him in death. Larry was an amazing husband, father and grandfather whose love and devotion to Jesus was an inspiration to others to also live their lives as a witness for Jesus. Larry's faith and family came before anything else. One way he shared his faith was to add scripture to every turkey caller he made. He was a long time active member of First Baptist Church in Montgomery. Larry was a great friend to many, beloved to his family, and will be greatly missed every day by those who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Carroll Sutherland and Gladys Hart Sutherland; one son-in- law, James Phillip Stabler. He is survived by his beloved, precious and adoringly devoted wife of almost 57 years, Carolyn Sutherland; his daughter; Reba V Street and son in law Steven Street; his son, Roger E Sutherland; two granddaughters, Mary-Austin V Stabler and Denise Brianne Kocher, grandson in law Gary C Kocher; two great-grandchildren, Abigail G Kocher & Shane A Kocher; and one very special uncle, Jim Sutherland (Georgia) plus numerous other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at First Baptist Church located at 305 S. Perry St. Montgomery, AL, with Rev. Mark Bethea and Rev. Jim Sutherland officiating. The family will receive guests at the church beginning at 11:30am. The service will be held at 1pm followed by a Graveside service at Greenwood Cemetery.
The family requests memorial contributions be sent to the Community Ministries of First Baptist Church Montgomery or to the Montgomery Association for Retarded Citizens (MARC). The family also deeply appreciates all of the many prayers and all the expressions of love, support and sympathy.
