Juanita Strickland Mitchell, age 98, passed away peacefully October 12 in Lubbock, Texas. She was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Juanita was born on November 5, 1924 to Ervin and Vera Strickland of Clay County, Alabama.
In June of 1945 she met and married the love of her life, Jep Staley Mitchell. Over the next fifteen years they grew into a family of six, adding four children of their own, along with many others who would be lovingly included in their home and claimed to be family as well. They were faithful servants in the Montgomery area Churches of Christ, opening their home to many throughout the years and fostering lifelong friendships. Together they enjoyed researching family histories, traveling, and sharing time with extended family and friends.
She is preceded in death by Jep, her loving husband of forty-seven years. Her surviving children include Marilyn Porterfield (Larry) of Baton Rouge, LA, Elaine King (John) of Lubbock, TX, Stuart Mitchell of Montgomery, AL, and Juanda Washburn (Don) of Keller, TX. She was a loving grandmother to seven, all of whom survive and include Jonathan King, Jennifer Kessler, Wendi Powell, Neah Scott, Kendyl Miedema, Kyle Washburn, and Barrett Mitchell. Great-grandchildren include Elise King, Zane King, Mackenzie Kessler, Race Powell, Brady Kessler, Sloane Bryan, Jep Scott, Wells Miedema and Autry Miedema.
