Grady was born on April 18, 1927 in Dale County, AL to Lemuel D. and Sarah Adeline McInnis.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Helen Willoughby McInnis; his brother, Samuel P. McInnis; his parents; and his great-grandson, Noah Collinsworth. He is survived by four children, Johnny B. McInnis (Dana) of Blue Ridge, GA, Myra Gordon (Rann) of Talladega, AL, Sara Shuman (Tim) of Pace, FL, and Steve McInnis (Teri) of Asheville, NC; his sister, Grace M. Dozier; four nieces; eight grandchildren, Jason, Lisa, Amy, Eric, Ashley, Brennan, Trey and Haley; and six great-grandchildren.
Grady was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the European theater. He was the co-owner of Wagnon Auto Parts with I.W. May in Montgomery.
He did volunteer work for the Baptist State Convention, and was a member of McGehee Road Baptist Church, where he served as a member of the choir and as a deacon.
He ministered to others by visiting the sick, making birthday calls, sending cards for all occasions and volunteering.
Grady’s passage to Heaven on Mother’s Day was fitting, as Helen, the mother of his children, was surely there to welcome him with open arms.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Grady’s name to Big Oak Ranch at 6000 Shelley Drive, Springville, Ala. 35146; or to the Alabama School for the Deaf, P.O. Box 698, Talladega, AL 35161.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 10 from 5-7 p.m. at Leak Memory Chapel in Montgomery. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 11. Pallbearers will be Jason McInnis, Eric Shuman, Brennan McKinney, James Bagley, Paul Holland, Matt Williamson, Patrick Jones and Brandon Holland. Honorary pallbearer will be Trey Gordon.
