John Mixon Milling, Jr., of Alabaster and formally of Montgomery, passed away November 11, 2023. He is survived by his wife, Glenda Sears Milling; daughters, Andrea Bartels (Andy) and Aimee Underwood (Brian); grandsons, John Mixon Bartels, Thomas Bartels, Luke Underwood and Ian Underwood. He is also survived by his sister, Cindy Peneguy.
John was born in Mobile to John Mixon Milling Sr. and Mildred Goff Milling. He graduated from Murphy High School and Spring Hill College in Mobile. He then earned his Juris Doctorate from the University Of Alabama Law School in 1970. Upon graduation, he moved to Montgomery and was a law clerk for Judge Bradley of the Alabama Supreme Court. He then went to work for Hill, Hill and Carter as a civil defense trial lawyer in 1971. He practiced law until his retirement in 2003. After retirement he enjoyed traveling and being with his family, especially his four grandsons. He loved working in his yard and bird watching.
John was an active member of Frazer Methodist Church from 1978 until 2019 when he and Glenda moved to Alabaster, Alabama and joined 1st Baptist Alabaster. He was a very devoted Christian, loved serving his Lord in many different ways.
Services for John will be Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at Alabama Heritage Funeral home at 1:00 PM with the visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Alabama Heritage Cemetery.
