John Barton Ficzere was born on September 3, 1940 to John Ficzere and Mary Nedwick Ficzere. He lived in Lindenhurst, Long Island, New York (1941-1961) and attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help through eighth grade. He then attended Seton Hall High School graduating in 1958. He attended college part-time and joined the Air Force in 1961 – eventually going to Westover Air Force Base working on B-52 aircraft. Following his honorable discharge in 1965, he worked as a quality assurance/quality control engineer in New Hampshire, Georgia, and Alabama. He was also a program analyst and wrote quality manuals.
He is survived by his wife, Mary E. Wynn Ficzere and his sons Barton J. Ficzere (Melissa) and Joseph J. Ficzere (Cathy); his grandchildren, Jared, Joshua, and Bailee; his stepsons, Bernard J. Collett (Beth) and Michael G. Collett (Amanda); step-grandchildren, Jonathan Collett (Lauren), Austin Collett, Sophia Collett, Grayson Collett, Riley Collett and Joseph Turner; great-grandchild Dylan Ficzere, and step-great-grandchild, Everett Turpin. He is also survived by his sister Mercedes Nierotka, his niece Michelle Nierotka, and his nephew Scott Nierotka (Elizabeth), and a great niece, Katrina. He is preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Norma Post Ficzere; brothers-in-law Gary Nierotka, Charles Post, Clifford Post, William Post, James Post and sister-in-law, Nadine Post.
John was a member of the Air Force One Masonic Lodge and became a Shriner. He was also a faithful member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church for many years. He enjoyed working with computers, toying with his previous Corvette, listening to classical music and spending time with friends and family.
Visitation will be held at Leak Memory Chapel on Friday evening from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
A Celebration of Life Church Service will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 2:00pm St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Carey Elam officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
All are invited back to the church for a catered reception and fellowship immediately following the graveside service.
