He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Mary Elizabeth Tinney, a sister, Virginia Celeste Tinney, and a daughter, Morgan Elizabeth Tinney.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy H. Tinney, of Montgomery, his son, James Matthew Tinney, of Tampa, Florida, twin daughters, Abigail Kaitlyn and Kacey Alexandra Tinney, of Montgomery, his brother, John Tinney (Cecelia), of Roanoke, two grandchildren, James Drew and Destiny Cait, of Tampa, Florida, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
He grew up in Talladega, Alabama, graduating from Talladega High School in 1965. He continued his education at Auburn University, graduating with a degree in Civil Engineering. Jim was employed by ADECA, after having retired from USDA Farmers Home Administration. He was devoted to his family, an avid golfer and sportsman, and a true friend to all who met him. He was a member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church and was actively involved with his children at Trinity Presbyterian School.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, January 3, 2014, from five to seven p.m. at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home, Montgomery, Alabama. The funeral service will be at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, January 4, 2014, at two p.m. followed by burial in Alabama Heritage Cemetery.
