He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy McCall Smith and Leo Garrett Smith; his sisters, Ann Smith Rutherford and Louise Carr Blake, and brother Buddy Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Rosen Smith, daughter Abbie (Kristen), grandson C.J., and a host of family and friends.
Jimmy retired from the City of Montgomery Parks and Recreation Department where he served as an irrigation specialist. Jimmy was known for his sense of humor, to the great enjoyment of his family and friends, and he was a storyteller extraordinaire of both truth and tale. Jimmy was a devoted friend who was known for lending a helping hand where needed. His loves were hunting, fishing, country-road riding, and all things Abbie and C.J.
A memorial service will be held at Leak Memory Chapel at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 3, 2023, preceded by visitation at 1 p.m. Graveside services at Greenwood Cemetery will follow the memorial service. Pallbearers are nephews Zack Buch, Nick English, Caleb English, Austin Vajdak, Travis Rutherford, Scot Wilbourn, Wil Smith, Keola Iskandar, Evan Mullinax and Chris English.
Serving as honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Boyd, John Lonnie Smith, Charlie Gray Smith, Eddie English, the Old Men’s Saturday Breakfast Club, countless friends, fellow hunters, and past co-workers with the City of Montgomery Parks and Recreation Department.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brantwood Children's Home or the charity of your choosing.
