Bell, James W. "Jim", MSGT USAF retired, 88, went to be with our Heavenly Father on Thursday, February 23, 2023. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Doris Glenn Bell, his sister Barbara Ann Rossi, his brother Ronnie Bell. He is survived by his daughters Kathy Nelson (Brad), Karen Northcut, (Butch), Kim Byrom (Charlie).His grandchildren Jeremy Nelson (Michelle),Tory Holt (Graham),Matthew Nelson, Timi Pilbro (Mason), Kade Northcut Marisa),Cheyenne Northcut, Kord Northcut (Taylor), Kaiden Byrom, and Jameson Byrom. His great-grandchildren Carter Nelson, Seth Nelson, Layla Pilbro, Alex Pilbro, Gracen James Holt, and Riley Northcut, His sister MaryAnn Bixler (Paul)and several nieces and nephews.
Jim was a military man entering the U.S. Army in 1950. He was always proud of his Airborne wings earned 14 April 1951. Then, he left the army to enter the U.S. Air Force and had a great career retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1972. He worked for the postal service for a while, then in 1974 moved back to Montgomery where he and Doris had married back in 1956.
Jim went to work with TG&Y and stayed with that company for 12 years until it went out of business. Then, he went to work for Giles Enterprises. After 20 years, he retired and enjoyed his golden years with his wife, daughters, sons-in-laws, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He liked to say he has 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren and one on the way although they are ALL GREAT.
Jim and his wife Doris were always active in church starting in Montgomery, then in Minot, North Dakota, Panama City, Florida, Newburg, New York, Balbok Heights Canal Zone, Dafter, Michigan, Mountain Home, Idaho, Prosperity, Pennsylvania and back to Montgomery at Southside Baptist. Hutch, Ridgecrest Baptist Church, and Taylor Road Baptist Church. In 2017, Jim and Doris moved their membership to First Baptist Church. Jim would always say he was blessed.
A graveside service will be Monday, February 27, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Alabama Heritage Cemetery with a visitation and reception to follow at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home.
