Irene Lucy Horner, age 89, Montgomery, Al, formerly of Linton, ND, passed away Friday July 26, 2013 at an assisted living facility in Cummming, Ga where she had resided since September of last year. Irene was born in Trail City, SD on October 4, 1923 to Anton and Clara (Schmidt) Holzer. She was confirmed at Saint Aloysius near Hague and Strasburg, ND. She attended high school in Timberlake, SD. Irene taught school for a few years after high school near Wishek, ND. She married Joseph M. Horner in 1946. They were married at Sacred Heart in the Township of Rosenthal, SD outside of Eureka, SD. They moved to Linton, ND shortly thereafter where she dedicated herself to raising her family. She was particularly active with St Anthony’s Catholic Church and Catholic School. She was very active with Catholic Daughters of America. In 1981 she moved South for health reasons and to be closer to her children and soon to be grandchildren. Her family was her life and passion. Irene is survived by five children, Shirley (Myron) Livingston at Johns Creek, GA, Dr. Killian Horner (Andrea) at Montgomery, AL, Tim (Dawn) Horner at Fayetteville, GA, Ron Horner at Omaha, NB, and Dean (Deanna) Horner at Meridianville, AL; two brothers, Leo (Rose) Holzer of Mobridge, SD, and Albert (Beverly) Holzer of Ozark, MO; three sisters, Albina Kelsch at Linton, ND, Charmaine Mosset at Linton, ND and Clarissa (Mark) Klein at Menoken, ND; a sister in-law Bernice Holzer Simek (George) of Bismarck ND; 16 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers Paul, Pete and Art Holzer; and her daughter Mary Jane Horner. Services will be held Wednesday July 31, 2013, with visitation at 11:00am Funeral Service at 12:00pm at St Bede’s Catholic Church in Montgomery, AL with burial following at Saint Margaret’s\Oakwood, Cemetery in Montgomery, AL.
