Horace Milton Taff, 95, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2022 at his home in Montgomery, Alabama. He is survived by his seven children: Terry Portanova (Larry), Jerry Taff (LuAnne), Mickey Taff (Jane), Kathy Faulk, Joey Taff, Betsy Hosp, and Davy Taff (Katie); 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Eloise “Sis” Taff, his parents Freeman and Elizabeth Short Taff, his brothers Clarence, Hillary, and Foy Taff, and his precious granddaughter, Lauren Nicole Taff.
He was born on February 4, 1927 in Cordova, Alabama. He attended Auburn University on a GI Bill graduating in 1951 and married that same year. He was stationed in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey then following at Camp Cooke, California where their first child was born.
Milton began his Alabama Power Company career first working in Montgomery, then promoted to District Manager and moving to Auburn in 1957. He was again promoted in 1971 and returned to Montgomery as District Manager there where he remained until retiring in 1989.
He dearly loved his Auburn life and was active in the local business community serving as President of Saugahatchee Country Club and Auburn Chamber of Commerce President. He also served as State Jaycee President and National Vice-President.
He was a devoted Auburn football fan and for many years held the position as Auburn Men’s Basketball Official Timekeeper.
After retiring, Milton and Sis spent much of their time enjoying their Lake Martin home with their children and grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:50am Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at St. Bede Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 10am in the Parish Hall. Graveside services will follow at Alabama Heritage Funeral Home.
