Hilda Jeanne Priester, of Wetumpka, Alabama peacefully departed this earth and went to her eternal home on November 21, 2023. She resided at John Knox at Arrowhead Assisted Living. Hilda was born in Montgomery, Alabama on November 13, 1944.
Preceded in death by her parents, Louis Orr Priester Sr. and Jean Lewis Priester. She is survived by her brother Louis Orr Priester, Jr. and sister-in-law Joyce Priester. Her surviving nieces and nephews are Lou and Lisa Priester, Brent and Joy Cherry and Matthew and Leigh Murphy and 10 great nieces and nephews.
As a young girl, Hilda was in Girls Auxiliary for nine years and Girl Scouts for five years. Hilda graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Montgomery, Alabama and earned her BS degree from Judson College. Later, she attended ASU to gain her teaching certification. Hilda was well known for her tennis skills. She competed and won numerous tournaments statewide and regionally. In addition, Hilda and her tennis partner, John Ed Mathison were two-time winners of state mixed doubles.
Hilda began her career as a Physical Education teacher and coach at St. James School and Montgomery Academy. She was successful as a coach by winning multiple tournaments in tennis, softball and basketball. Later, she returned to teaching for 10 years of service with Montgomery Public Schools. In 2011, she retired from teaching. In addition, Hilda obtained a realtor’s license and worked as a realtor for a short while.
Hilda had a big heart. She helped many in need. Especially, the children in her classroom. Hilda was loved by her family and her dogs.
A graveside service for Hilda will be held Sunday, November 26, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens, 909 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, AL 36109.
