Hershell "Benny" Williams passed on to his forever home with Jesus on August 11, 2018 after battling cancer for over 16 years. He was born in Sylacauga, Alabama, raised in Clay County, and graduated from Clay County High School in 1960. He proudly served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force including service in Germany, Montana, the Pentagon, Korea, and at Maxwell Air Force Base. His various jobs included security and Honor Guard detail. He also retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 17 years. He loved spending time with his Kendrick Baptist Church family, watching his grandchildren play sports, watching Alabama and Clay County football, and working in his garden.
He was preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Clentelle Williams, in-laws Joachim and Else Fiedler, and grandson Corey Caulfield. He is survived by his wife of over 52 years Monika Williams; his son Steve (Kim) Williams, daughters Cindy (Billy) Caulfield and Christi "Gee" (Freddie) Ott; grandchildren Matt Williams, Clay Williams, Billy (Paige) Caulfield, Bradley Caulfield, Chelsea Caulfield, Caylie Caulfield, and Makinley Ott; great-grandchildren Wyatt Gaines and Emery Caulfield; six brothers, one sister, and several extended family members.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2018, from 9:00 am until 10:00 am, A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 am in the chapel, with burial to follow at 2:00 pm at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Al.
Services will be officiated by Peggie Ott; pallbearers will be: Billy Caulfield, Bradley Caulfield, Matt Williams, Clay Williams, Todd Green, Tim Green and Jake Lord.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society or the Billy Caulfield Liver Transplant Go Fund Me Account.
