Helen Mathis Houghton, died peacefully on June 28, 2014 at the age of 73 from an extended illness. Helen was born April 30, 1941 in Montgomery, Alabama, the daughter of Clarence and Mattie Mathis.
Helen was married to Bill Houghton for 55 years. She was a faithful charter member of University Church of Christ. Her sister, Joyce Mathis Cook, preceded her in death. She is survived by a sister Ann (Jimmy) Urquhart and a brother Randall (Fran) Mathis. She leaves behind two children: Joel (Melissa) Houghton and Julie (Billy) Sahli; five grandchildren: Cole Barksdale, Shane Sahli, Will Houghton, Leah Houghton, Sam Houghton and many loving nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be Monday, June 30, 2014 at 1:00 pm at University Church of Christ in Montgomery, Alabama with Randy Medlin officiating. The funeral will follow at 2:00 pm and burial will be at Montgomery Memorial Cemetery.
