Hazel Alice Money, 96, of Montgomery, AL, passed peacefully on Saturday, June 2, 2018, in Huntsville, AL. She was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen Philip Dampier and Mary Douglas Dampier; her first husband, Louis T. Carr (died in WWII), her second husband, Luie W. Money; her sister, Jimmie Ruth Woodward; and her son, William Paul Money. Following WWII, Hazel enrolled at the University of Florida in Gainesville as one of the first female students at UF. She enjoyed gardening, painting, knitting, French Heirloom sewing, cooking, walking along the beach, and teaching kindergarten and children’s Bible classes. She was a longtime member at the Vaughn Park Church of Christ in Montgomery. Survivors include her sister, Charlotte Wills of Niceville, FL; brother, S. Philip Dampier (Grace) of Dothan, AL; son, Louis T. (Tom) Carr, Jr. (Becky) of Madison, AL.; daughter, Cynthia A. Higginbotham (Robert) of Pleasant View, TN; son, Steven C. Money of Montgomery, AL; daughter-in-law, Phyllis A. Combs of Panama City Beach, FL; grandson, Robert L. Higginbotham (Monique); granddaughters, Rae Anne Smith (Jeff), Amy Lynne Rowe (Lin), Megan Alyse Gustafson (Mike), Meredith Louise Carr Sides (Bradley), Mckenna Elise Underwood (Austin); great-grandchildren, Sarah Seay (Blake), Michael Seay, Katie Rowe, Elizabeth Rowe, John Thomas Rowe, Bella Higginbotham, Sadie Gustafson, Carter Gustafson, Ivy Higginbotham; and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, June 8, 2018, at the Alabama Heritage Funeral Home at 10505 Atlanta Highway in Montgomery. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m., with Mr. Craig Chandler, Vaughn Park Church of Christ, officiating.
