Gerry was not a guy you can not forget. Good times from Security Police days and later in civilian law enforcement still bring smiles to us. Rest in Peace, man.

I was so surprised and saddened to hear Gerry passed away. We had some good times while together at Maxwell AFB and beyond in our second careered. God has him now. The world is a lesser place without him.

I am so sorry for not only the family's loss but all who knew Jerry. He and I go back to high school many years ago. We met when Jerry was fifteen and I was sixteen. We did a lot together. Great times and memories growing up when fun and humor were part of life. It's obvious that neither one of us lost that. After high school, Jerry went into the Air Force while I went into the Navy. Although we hadn't seen each other, we kept in touch through letters and phone calls. The last time we talked was a couple of years ago. The family pictures on his tribute are awesome and show how Jerry was loved by all and touched so many lives. Knowing this makes it easier for me to accept his loss. I hope the family and friends find their comfort through thinking about how Jerry was loved. 

Deepest Condolences to the Conners Family.  I served with Gerry in the 3800th SPSq at Maxwell.  Our paths crossed frequently during his Trooper career, especially when he was with ABI Narcotics and I was with ABC Enforcement.  He was always a plus to the Law Enforcement community and I enjoyed any times we worked together.  I apologize for being unable to attend the service but my grand daughter whom I visited three days ago has discovered several of a friend's family have come down with Covid-19 so we are all staying isolated  until we know more. 

To All of Gerry's Family & Friends,

Gerry was an outstanding cop and absolutely hilarious. I first met Jerry when I transferred from a uniformed State Trooper into ABI Narcotics in the late 80's.  Gerry taught me everything anyone could ever possibly want to know about working drugs. I worked closely with him for several years and even after a 35 career in law enforcement, I've never met a better undercover anywhere. He was a wild man while working and when you covered him you had to be prepared for him to say or do just about anything because he was a true artist at work. Many times when the cuffs went on the bad guys they just could not fathom that he was a cop! It was priceless to watch and some of the funniest video evidence you can imagine. 

When the danger passed he was so much fun to be around. He kept you in stitches and I see from reading the other memories that he was the same way with all of you. A true friend and a great guy. He was, as someone else said, a true cop's cop. When he backed you up you never had to doubt that he would be there for you. Sometimes with Gerry it was just one prank and joke after another and you would literally have stomach pain from doubling over laughing. 

There was one particular prank that he played for years, over and over and people never caught onto it and he played right along with it. I've told hundreds of people this prank and they can't believe it. If social media had been around when Gerry was in his prime he would've been a global sensation and I mean that. 

So sad to share this, I'd rather been be sitting around the pool or fire pit with Gerry talking about old times, old jokes and some of the very best times in my memory. 

So sorry for all of our loss, he will truly be missed.

To Gerry’s family,
      Our most deepest sympathy.  We are so sad to hear of Gerry’s passing but his memory reminds us of our wonderful next door neighbor in Atlanta in the late 70’s.  We had much fun together and he always had an incredible smile and was there if we needed ANY help.  He was a true friend and his memory will always make us smile and remind us of  how fortunate that our paths crossed at that time.

To Jennifer, Jerry, Kim and family: We are so deeply sorry for your loss. I still would think of him as my Uncle Jerry. When Chase and Jordyn met him that's how he was introduced. When he came to Mamaw's funeral he made Chase laugh so hard at the funny things he was telling him. I told them that's how he has always been. He could make anyone laugh. I will always have great memories of him from growing up. We hope God puts his arms around you all to comfort you. Aunt Peggy I'm so very sorry you have been in our prayers as well.

My deepest condolences to Gerry’s family. 

Gerry and I served together in the Air Force in the latter half of the 1970s   Back then, I knew him by his nickname, "Jerry." 
Those were early days in law enforcement for the two of us, so we made plenty of mistakes, learned from some of them, and shared many laughs.  

Gerry was an inveterate practical joker.  Tales of his more memorable pranks have been told and re-told for decades.  I’ve even shared a few of the classics in the last few days with our old squadron mates while reminiscing about Gerry.   During our time in the Air Force, Gerry was also known for speaking out against bureaucratic nonsense.  That made him a legend among his peers; not so much with the bureaucrats.  

But, to me, Gerry’s signature characteristic was that he was a cop’s cop.  He was a hard charger.  When we were together, I always knew he had my back.  I would go through a door with him, anytime, anywhere.  

Even in our Air Force days, it was evident that Gerry would rise through the ranks in his chosen profession.  And so he did.  Our Great Nation and The State of Alabama owe Gerry a debt of gratitude for devoting his working life to the protection of his country, his state, and his communities.  

Every single day Gerry served in the military and in civilian law enforcement, he faced the reality that he might have to sacrifice his life to save the life of a complete stranger.  Of that, he was willing.  Greater love hath no man than this . . .
