Gerald Lee Conner Jr. was born on July 24, 1953. He passed away on July 30, 2021 at the age of 68 after complications from a surgical procedure. Jerry graduated from high school in Los Angeles, California. He held a Master’s of Science in Criminal Justice and Public Safety, Masters of Science in Counseling, Bachelors of Science Degree and an Associate of Science in Nursing. He is a retired Air Force Veteran who started his law enforcement career in the Air Force as a Military Police. Upon discharging from the military his first law enforcement job was at the Marietta Police Department. He was then hired by the Alabama State Troopers where his first post was in Grove Hill, Alabama. He moved thru the ranks of the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and was promoted to Trooper Major. He then moved to the Service Division of the Alabama Department of Public Safety where he retired after 32 years of service. Upon his retirement from the Alabama Department of Public Safety he moved to Pulaski, Tennessee and became the Chief of Police of the Elkton Police Department. Upon full retirement he relocated back to Wetumpka to be closer to his children and grandchildren. Jerry’s hobbies included traveling which included taking his Trooper stuffed bear along for the trips, motor cycle riding, wood working. He was an avid history buff. He was well known for his pranks and funny stories.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents Gerald Lee Conner, Sr. and Lucille Repka Conner but survived by his children: daughter Jennifer Conner and Fiancé Scott Pugh, son Gerald “Jerry” Lee Conner III, daughter Kim Conner Adams and husband Jimmy Adams as well as the mother of his children Peggy Conner. Other surviving relatives include his grandchildren: Conner Adams, Weston Adams, Granger Adams and Ellie Pugh; his beloved two birds: Buster and Dusty; his sister and brother in law: Nancy and Dave Brown; and his brother and sister in law: Ralph and June Conner as well as several nieces and one nephew, cousins and many longtime friends.
A visitation for Jerry will be held Thursday, August 5, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Rd, Montgomery, Alabama 36109. A graveside will occur Friday, August 6, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Alabama National Cemetery, 3133 Hwy 119, Montevallo, Alabama 35115 with Trooper Honor Guard. Father Michael Irwin officiating.
