George Wills Jones Jr. went home to our Lord on October 19, 2018 passing peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones.He was born August 6, 1928 to George & Elsie Jones in Ringgold Georgia, the oldest of 7 boys.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years Virginia H Jones, his children Patricia (Jimmy) Medford, Jennifer (Gary) Fountain, Rudy Jones, Cindyann (Robert) Craig, Janis (Dave) Puzar, Paul (Pamela) Alburl , 14 grandchildren, 21 great grand children, 1 great great grand child, brothers David Lamar , Robert Doyle Johnny Jones and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.He is preceded in death by his first wife Marion D (Honer) Jones and a son David E Honer. Mr. Jones had a great love of music, fishing and gardening. He attend Martha Berry College, prior to his enlisting in the Navy.
He was retired Chief Petty Officer, Navy Aviation Mechanic, serving during Korean War, Cuban missile Crisis, and Vietnam conflict. He traveled the world working for Lear Ziegler, Hughes and Bell Helicopter.
He was instrumental in creating bluegrass bands in Arizona (Salt River Ramblers) and Alabama (Capitol City) and several country music radio programs in Iran, Arizona, Idaho and Alabama.
He was an avid member of Dalraida church in Montgomery. He was also a Mason and Shriner.
A public visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2018 from 10:00am-11:00am in the chapel of White Chapel-Greenwood Funeral home located at 909 Lincoln Rd. Montgomery, AL. followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00am. A committal service will also follow the Celebration of Life Service at 1:00pm in Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery located at 408 Bethel Church Rd. Ft. Deposit, AL. with military honors.
