Frances McMeekin McGuire left her earthly body August 17, 2016. Born in Etowah County, Alabama, on March 19, 1924, she was the fifth of ten children. Her parents were the late Thomas W. and Millie Owens McMeekin. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years W. E. “Mac” McGuire, and her eldest daughter, Evelyn K. Gibson. She is survived by her daughters Margaret M. (H. Gayle) Clark of Millbrook, AL; Jan McGuire of Hollywood, CA; and Susan J. McGuire of Pintlala AL. Also surviving her are six grandchildren John Hope; Kristina Renfroe; Elemy Keats; Caitlin Keats; Matthew Hartzell and Carl W. “Trey” Cotten, III, as well as five great-grandchildren Paolo Gallardo; Nicole Renfroe; Jordan Renfroe; Bailey Hope; and Ben Hope. She is also survived by her sister, Winona Weddington, of Rainbow City, AL. She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends to cherish her memory.
Frances was a devoted Air Force wife and mother. After raising her children, she pursued her passion for education by becoming a medical laboratory histologist at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Montgomery, AL. She later enrolled at Troy State University and received her degree in Sociology at age 60, always on the Dean’s List. She volunteered in many organizations including tax preparation for seniors.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Donald Marshall, Renae Bowers and Teri Randolph for their devoted and compassionate medical and personal care of Mama for over 25 years. We would also like to thank Nedra Kelly, RN, and Montgomery Hospice for their care during Mama’s final days.
Pallbearers are H. Gayle Clark; Jim Rodriguez; Matthew Hartzell; Trey Cotten; and Alex Fisher. The celebration of life service will be held at Leak Memory; 945 Lincoln Road; Montgomery, AL on Wednesday, August 24, 2016. Visitation will begin at 11:00 with the service to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Billy Graham Ministries; Salvation Army; or the charity of your choice.
