Gene and I were in the Air Force together... we were roomates at Mather Air Force Base in Sacramento where we underwent Navigator Training, then at Pope AFB in North Carolina where we were trained to navigate C-130s for a tour of duty in Vietnam... After that tour, we went our separate ways. I went to Military Airlift Command (MAC), and Gene went to Tactical Air Command (TAC). We kept in touch over the years, mostly due to Gene's writing long, informative letters (handwritten) to me. We were very close over the years, and I was shocked to hear of his sudden death of a heart attack - and deeply saddened. He was a great guy....

Is this the same Gene Raub who graduated from Alamogordo, NM High School? If so, he was such a good friend. I was looking for former classmates when I came upon this obituary. 
Since Holloman AFB was near us, lotsa kids came and went. I always assumed he would follow his dad in an air force career. I've always thought about what might have become of him. We corresponded for a while, but then lost touch.
Please accept my condolences whether he's the boy I knew or not. He obviously served our country well, and for that I am grateful.

Omg KARA .. I hope u read this I was in Montgomery not long ago and went looking for Llyde lane house and left a message on the door and in mailbox and realized all mail was for someone else and told aunt b I wig I knew how to each u . I am so so sorry to hear about both Marietta and mr gene . I don't know if u know but my daddy does same year as your mom 2011 April tho . Gene was one of my best friends in high school at Los Alamos. Out of touch since then-my loss. So sorry.

Our Sympathy goes out to Kara, Gene's Sister Joyce and Sister-in-law Bonnie. Gene will be missed. They were very generous to everyone they meet. They were wonderful friends. A memorial brick with his name on it will be placed in our church near Etta's. May they rest in peace. Love them both.

Gene was two years of ahead of me at Los Alamos High School, and I remember him as one of the nicest guys and best swimmers there.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.  My condolences go out to his family.

May God comfort Gene's family and friends in their sorrow. The Raubs lived around the corner from us in Los Alamos. He was in my sister's graduation class of 1960. Gene was a great guy and is still remembered by all of us.

Gene was a good friend and neighbor. We were saddened to hear of his passing. Springtime on Watson Circle will not be the same without his beautiful Tulips. Gene was a classmate and a great friend at Los Alamos High School.  We both were in the class of 1960.  We were  pretty close and shared a great friendship.  I had a wonderful visit with Gene at our last HS reunion in 2010 here in Albuquerque.  He will be sincerely missed, truly a wonderul person.  My very best to his family at this difficult time.
