Elmer Rogers, 93, a long-time resident of Montgomery, AL, passed away on March 22, 2017 after an extended illness. He was born and grew up in Pine Level (Autauga County) Prattville, AL. He was a member of Whitfield United Methodist Church for 53 years, where he served in most areas of the church and was also a long time member of the John Wingard Sunday School class.
Elmer Rogers proudly served our country in the Army Infantry. He worked for Delchamps Inc. for 30 years, The State of Alabama for 10 years, Super Foods for 15 years, and Winn Dixie for 10 years. He was an Alcazar Shriner 32 Scottish Rite Mason member of Andrew Jackson Masonic Lodge No. 173.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Susie Rogers; daughter Venita Rogers; sisters, Margurite Cartee and Dorothy Ward; brothers, Calvin Rogers, Malcom Rogers, Winston Rogers, and Floyd Rogers (Tom); and great-grandchild Andrew Cannon.
He is survived by his wife Vivian of 71 years; three children, Billy Rogers, Teresa Chavers, and Gina Pruette of Montgomery; 7 grandchildren, Brent Rogers, Wade Cannon, Stephanie Rogers, Krystal Myrick, Laine Pruette, Jessica Pruette, and Jennifer Erwin; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Wanda Hemelt and Shirley Waters.
Elmer and his wife Vivian cherished the time they spent together at their cabin on Lake Martin (Castaway Island) boating and fishing with family and friends. He loved the outdoors, nature, vegetable gardening, and hunting. He was a humble, honest man who was loved by many.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Donald Marshall and his staff, Rena Bowers and Teri Randolph for their devoted and compassionate medical care over the years. Thanks to Alacare Hospice from the family, for the wonderful care Elmer received from all the great staff; who was so loving and caring, and Many thanks to Dr. James Jakes and staff for the love and care.
