Ella was born on June 20, 1923 in Hope Hull, Alabama. She was number 5 of 7 children. Attending church with her family were some of her earliest memories. Her mother instilled in her children to be good and fear the Lord. At age 19, she surprised everyone by joining the US Navy. She served for 2 years, 4 months, and 9 days in the WAVES. She met Robert and they got married on December 1, 1946. They lived a beautiful and full life together for 50 years and then she lived another 27 years until their heavenly reunion.
Ella was a loving mother and grandmother, an inspirational speaker in Toastmasters, church, and over 60 years as a Sunday School teacher. She loved God, her family, making pound cakes, memorizing poetry, hymns, flowers, and Alabama football. She leaves behind a lasting legacy in her family, friends, and everyone who knew her. Today she is enjoying a family reunion that she has been looking forward to for many years.
A friends and family visitation for Ella will be held Friday, December 27, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Leak Memory Chapel, 945 Lincoln Rd, Montgomery, Alabama 36109, followed by a celebration of life chapel service at 11:00 AM. Services will conclude with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Officiant: Rev. Jeff Tate.
