Elizabeth D’Ann Binford, a wonderful Christian role model and proud Texan beloved by her family, went to Glory on January 11, 2023. She has been reunited in Heaven with the love of her life of 62 years, Robert George (Bob) Binford, Jr., and their loving son, Robert G. (Bob) Binford, III. Also there to greet Mom were her parents Ed and Dare Carle last of Dallas, TX, and all other much-loved family and friends for whom she has missed so much. She is survived by her daughter Lori Ann Binford, Venice, FL; daughter-in-law Lola Binford, Bellevue, NE; granddaughter Lauren Villafuerte (Brian), and two great-grandchildren of New Port Richey, FL; her beloved baby sister Sheryl Fancher and terrific brother-in-law Ray of Charleston, SC: and their children and grandchildren. The family wishes to honor Bob and D’Ann’s “other daughter”, Nancy Gray, for her loving care and support of our parents over the years. D’Ann is also survived by THE best dog, Buddy, a rescue that she and Bob adopted on their 50th wedding anniversary.
D’Ann loved the Lord and always put her family before herself. She was a constant help mate and perfect partner for her husband Bob as they moved cross-country during Dad’s military career and afterwards settling in Prattville, Troy, and finally, Montgomery. Early on, she sewed custom christening dresses and bonnets for others and made terrific clothes for her children. In Prattville, she was a substitute teacher and teacher’s aide – an awesome accomplishment for someone who didn’t learn to read until the 3rd grade when a wonderful teacher noticed that she was struggling. She arose at an ungodly hour to bake biscuits for Dad’s McDonald’s store in Troy, and then joined him in selling real estate for Lowder New Homes later in Montgomery. She loved her church and work friends and always looked out for her neighbors who often became fast friends. She was incredibly smart and gifted her children with the love of research and a can-do attitude (she was DYI before it was a thing). D’Ann was a voracious reader and extremely creative...she appreciated the arts and loved refinishing a great find at an auction and making art out of found objects in nature. A Depression baby, she could really pinch a penny -hard.
The family sends a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers at Angels for the Elderly and Jackson Hospital. Special thanks and blessings for the wonderful caregivers at Crowne Health Care of Montgomery who loved on Mom and took care of her as if she was their own. Honorary pallbearers are Mom’s ladies circle at the former Covenant Presbyterian Church, Montgomery. In lieu of flowers, donations to your local United Way or the Montgomery City-County library would be appreciated. Please hug a teacher and tell them about our mom’s legacy of life-long learning started by her 3rd grade teacher’s intervention. Internment New Live Oak Cemetery, Selma.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at Leak Memory Chapel on Friday Feb 10th at 11am with visitation one hour prior to service. Final Interment will be at New Live Oak cemetery Selma, Al.
