Mr. Brown served in WWII where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge and received three bronze stars. After the war, he worked for the State of Alabama for over 40 years prior to retiring. Mr. Brown had a passion for golfing. Over the course of his life, he competed and won 85 local and state tournaments and had 21 holes-in-one. He participated in The State Masters games as well as the National Senior Olympics. He was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 1976.
Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 50 years, Mildred Parham Brown; son, Charles Thomas Brown; his parents; three sisters; and one brother.
Survivors include his son, Edward “Ed” L. Brown, Jr., (Linda); daughters, Debbie L. Cowen (Jerry), Candace “Candy” B. Bridges (Craig); grandchildren, Staci Heaton (Ken), Brian Cowen, Jody Brown (Crystal), Holly Dennis (Edward), Haley Clement (Marcus); three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be held from 12-2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Leak Memory Chapel followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM with Minister Neil Epler officiating. The burial will be held at Greenwood Serenity Cemetery. Leak Memory Chapel is directing.
