Dorothy (Dot) Powell Truitt 92, passed away after a short illness Friday September 27. Dot is preceded in death by husband, William Edwin Truitt, Sr. and her parents Dorothy Hickman Powell and Eldridge Boyd Powell. She is survived by her children William Edwin Truitt,Jr (Nancy) and Marie Truitt Huber. Those left to cherish her memory are grandchildren Laine Thompson, Christian Huber (Nancy), Scott Huber (Carol), Adrian Huber (Virginia), Janice Huber (Maria). Other survivors include great grandchildren Adrianna Huber, Alyssa Antonaccio (Gianni), Kristin Huber and Celeste Huber and great, great granddaughter Ilya. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Diane O'Neil Truitt and other nieces, nephews and cousins who will miss her presence. Dot was born in New Orleans Louisiana and grew up in Atlanta Georgia. Beginning her faith walk, at age 11 she made her profession of faith and was active in First Baptist Church Atlanta, Georgia. While attending the University of Alabama, she met and was married to William Edwin Truitt in 1952. They were able to celebrate 69 years of marriage. A graduate of the University of Alabama in Food and Nutrition, she worked as a registered dietitian for 16 years at Anniston Memorial Hospital and 16 years at Baptist South Montgomery. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Montgomery since 1967. She loved to serve the Lord in her chosen vocation as well as volunteering her time at the Huff-Ferguson Caring Center and Frank Tripp, Jr computer classes which she and Ed served faithfully from 2004-2015. She was a devoted mother to Edwin and Marie and many others who are honored to call her Mommie.
Visitation with be Friday October 4, 2024 at First Baptist Church Montgomery at 1:00pm with a service in Stakely Sanctuary at 2:00pm. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery with reception following in the Leak Memorial Jefferson room. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Truitt Scholarship Fund through the First Baptist Foundation.
