Dr. Marshall was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, and was later inducted into the Robert E. Lee High School Hall of Fame. He was a graduate of Auburn University, and received his medical degree from UAB School of Medicine. He served in the USAF, in Bethesda, MD, and began his career at Jackson Hospital in 1980 until his retirement.
Dr. Marshall was a board certified Family Practice physician, as well as a Certified Medical Director at John Knox Manor Nursing Home. He also served as Medical Director at multiple assisted living facilities in Montgomery, Prattville and Opelika. He also served as Medical Director at Hospice of Montgomery for the past 20 years. He started his private practice at Jackson Hospital in July 1980. He retired from Jackson Hospital on June 30, 2021.
Dr. Marshall was dearly loved by his patients and their family members. His office staff adored him, and he felt the same about his amazing “work family”; Teri Randolph, Renae Bowers, Adelle Hutchins, Chelsie Abrams and Lori Mathews.
He is predeceased by his mother, Katherine Murphree Marshall, his father, Otis Douglas Marshall, Jr., his brother, Otis Douglas Marshall, III, and his special cousin, Sherry Murphree, and other loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
Dr. Marshall is survived by his wife, Peggy Stephens Marshall, and his children; Alicia Marshall Culler (Rob) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Brian Christopher Marshall of Montgomery, AL, and John Ritchie (Shaun) Marshall (Lorianne) of Bohemia, NY. His six grandchildren loved their “D”…Emily Frances Marshall, Christopher Harwell Marshall, Katherine Victoria Culler, William Marshall Culler, Vince Buchanan Marshall and Anna Evans Marshall. He is also survived by his sister, Katherine Frances Marshall and his beloved sister-in-law, Earlena Peterson Marshall. Dr. Marshall is also survived by loving nieces, Amy Marshall Giles (John), Natalie Marshall Dean (Frank) and nephew, Douglas Scott Marshall (Taylor). Also surviving is his cousin Susan Ebersbach (Randy). He is also survived by Peggy's family that loved him dearly.
He was an avid Auburn fan and loved going to football games and tailgating with his friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 30, 2021 at Leak Memory from 12:00 to 1:45, with graveside services to follow at 2:00, in Greenwood Cemetery officiated by Chaplain Mark Springer.
