Cynthia Jean Sawyer

Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 12 at 10:00 am at Dalraida Baptist Church with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 am. Pastor Rick Evans will be officiating. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Leak Memory Chapel.

Cynthia was born in El Paso, Texas on September 14, 1946. She graduated from Robert E. Lee High school and continued on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Troy State University with Advanced Studies at George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia.

Cynthia was married to Donald W. Sawyer, Jr. on January 26, 1974; they were married 34 years.

Cynthia worked as a Special Education teacher for Montgomery, Alabama and Fairfax, Virginia school systems for 25 years. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and rock collecting. She was also a charter member of the Sunrise Garden Club (Michigan), lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary, director and teacher of AWANA program (Michigan) for 11 years, former member of American Baptist Women of Michigan (ABWM), Mission Coordinator for the First Baptist Church – Lincoln (Michigan), and member of the Alcona Historical Society for 15 years.

Cynthia is survived by Jeffery D. and Masako (Nakada) Sawyer, Christine E. (Sawyer) and Jim Driscoll, Halley R. Driscoll, Gillian S. Driscoll, Neve J. Driscoll, Deborah S. Flora, Anita L. (John) Deavers.

Cynthia is preceded in death by Donald W. Sawyer, Jr. (husband), Davis C. Moring (father), Helen J. Moring (mother), Barbara A. Moring (sister).

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Dalraida Baptist Church, 3838 Wares Ferry Road, Montgomery, Alabama 36109 or First Baptist Church – Lincoln, 202 E. Main Street, Lincoln, Michigan 48742.
