Cynthia Michelle Matthews Eldridge (Cissy) was born in Texarkana, Texas on July 25, 1969 and she stepped into Heaven on Dec 26, 2019 as a result of an apparent heart attack. She was only 50 years old; however, she had lived her life to the fullest. She was a beautiful daughter, a devoted wife, a loving Mom and an outstanding employee of the Food Service Industry. She accomplished all of these milestones in two distinct 25 year increments. During the first 25 years of her life, she grew up as a ‘military brat’ and went to school in Texas, Hawaii, Virginia, South Carolina, and Alabama. During those formative years, she learned how to swim in the Edisto River and Boogie Board in Hawaii. She learned to eat Texas Brisket with the red BBQ sauce and she also learned how to eat the SC version of pulled pork with the mustard style sauce. Her favorite foods were grits, chicken salad, macaroni and cheese, her Dad’s potato salad and sweet tea. She was ‘Daddy’s little girl’ and everyone knew it. In 1993, she completed her school work and was ready to go to work. She worked at the local Bowling Alley where she met Darryl… the love of her life and true soul-mate. After a whirlwind romance they got married on Valentine’s Day in 1994 and the second half of her life began. She got hired by US Food Service and worked in the food service industry for the next 25 years. In the meantime, her two sons Darryl Jr. (DJ) and Jimmy were born and the honeymoon was quickly over and she was a full-time employee, wife and mother. She loved all facets of her life, especially being Mom to DJ and Jimmy and being Darryl’s wife. Each year she looked forward to “showing off her boys” while attending the annual 4th of July Sojourner Family Reunion at The River (Edisto) in South Carolina. She often times called The River her ‘Happy Place’ or sometimes she called it her ‘Heaven on Earth’. Cissy was Baptized twice in her life….once as a child in Texas and recently she rededicated her life to Christ and was Baptized on June 11, 2013. As a result, the Family is confident that Cissy is in Heaven and we have great Hope of seeing her again.
Cissy is survived by her husband of 25 years, Darryl Eldridge, Sr; her two sons Jimmy and Darryl (DJ) Eldridge, Jr (Courtney); two step-children, Lenore Pedicord (Jason) and Andrew Eldridge. Cissy is also survived by her brother (Jim Parsons); her parents Chet and Cindy Matthews; and her maternal grandmother Marilyn Whatley.
She also has two Uncles (Rick and Frank) and two Aunts (Lindy and Jane) along with many cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the Family suggests donations can be made to First Baptist Church in Montgomery, 305 S. Perry Street, Montgomery, Al 36104; American Heart Association; or a charity of their choice.
