Charles (Charlie) Strasburger passed away Thursday, February 26, 2015. He was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on September 23, 1932. He was the son of the late Emily and Charles Strasburger. Charlie graduated from the University of Tennessee and became a second Lieutenant in the US Army. He married Bette Ham Joy in 1958 and they had two sons, Charles Foster Strasburger, Sr, and Thomas Albert Strasburger. They raised their family as Charlie grew his career in retail buying and management administration. Charlie moved to Montgomery in 1978 to manage Leon’s at Montgomery Mall. He married Bette Sue Feinman Chernau in March, 1987. Together, they operated the chain of Repeat Performance consignment stores in Montgomery until retiring in 2004. In retirement, Charlie enjoyed driving for 8 years for Enterprise Rent-a-car. Charlie was an avid car enthusiast, loved to travel US National sites, and was a devoted member of Temple Beth Or.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Bette Sue Strasburger, his two sons, Charles (Gina) and Tom (Nonda), Bette Sue’s children, Terri Chernau Rittenberg (Scott) of Atlanta, Ga, Lani Chernau Ashner (Nick) of Montgomery, Al, Marc Chernau (Lauren) of Atlanta, Ga, 13 grandchildren: Charles Foster Strasburger, Jr. (Margot) of Pittsburg, Pa, Emily Louise Strasburger Burnette (Corey) of Decatur, IL, Alexa Michal Rittenberg of Columbus, OH, Dylan Thomas Strasburger of Union, KY, Meagan Nicole Ashner of Fairfax, VA, Andrew Stephen Rittenberg of Atlanta, GA, Nathan Stuart Ashner of Montgomery, AL, Joel Eli Rittenburg of Atlanta, GA, Madelyn Skylar Chernau of Atlanta, GA, Evan Phillip Strasburger of Union, KY, Collin Webber Strasburger of Union, KY, Grant Joseph Chernau of Atlanta, GA, Mason Samuel Chernau of Atlanta, GA, 2 great-grandchildren: Hannah Lee Munson of Decatur, IL, and Charles Foster Strasburger, III, of Pittsburgh, PA and Charlie’s sister, Linda Strasburger Bolt of Knoxville, TN.
Family visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2015 at Leak Memory Chapel, funeral services at 2:00 p.m., followed by graveside services at Eternal Rest Cemetery (Oakwood).
