A long-time resident of Montgomery, Charles Dennis Sessions passed away at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Montgomery on April 13, 2018, following a brief illness. He was born on September 14, 1928, to James Dowdell Sessions and Minnie Stockley Sessions in Abanda, Alabama.
After spending his early years in the Abanda-Wadley area, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1948, fulfilling assignments world-wide. His duty assignments included Alaska, Korea, Vietnam, Germany, New Mexico, and both Maxwell and Gunter Air Force Bases. He retired as a MSgt in August 1974.
He leaves to cherish his memories Doris Sessions Weaver, sister, of Wedowee, Alabama; Bobby Joe Sessions, brother, of Wetumpka, Alabama; Charles Dexter Sessions, son, of Montgomery; three grandsons: Robert Dowdell ”Rob” Sessions (Brandy) of Chattanooga, Tennessee; Joseph Brandon Sessions (Amanda Lee) of LaGrange, Georgia; James Alex Sessions (Becky) of Wetumpka; and one granddaughter, Tina Marie Barnes (Lee) of Wetumpka. Additionally, he leaves a host of nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, and friends.
Charles was preceded in death by Eris Mae Young Sessions, his loving wife of 57 years; two brothers: Ross
Shockley Sessions and James Sessions, and a sister, Margaret Sessions Sutton.
Upon retirement from the Air Force in August of 1974, he set out in the business world. After working for
Contractors Appliance for two years, he opened Discount Building Materials in Wetumpka, which he ran for 18 years. After selling the business, he opened Surplus and Salvage in Montgomery. When he sold this business in 2004, he joined the ranks of the fully retired.
Over the years, he befriended many people in the Montgomery and Elmore County areas. He worked tirelessly on many political campaigns for conservative candidates who favored the people of these areas and their interests.
A loving, caring, sharing person, Charles had a unique flair for making everyone feel welcome in his presence.
Regardless of how a person met him, the result was often a long-lasting friendship. The epitome of the Good Samaritan, a friend could always count on Charles.
