It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mr. Charles Reginald Green Sr., who passed away at 90 years old after a brief battle with pneumonia on February 18, 2025. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Shirley Yvonne Weathers Green, as well as his two brothers Hobson and Darrell Green. He is survived by his four children: Charles Reginald Green Jr. (Sheila), Christopher Richard Green (Lisa), Craig Ray Green (Kelly), and Carl Robert Green (Martha); grandchildren: Charlene Green, Timothy Green(Karen), Joseph Warner Jr.(Olivia), Tommy Sessions(Melanie), Christina Knight(Kevin), Brittany Sessions(Jeffrey), Connor Green(Holly), Cara England(Aarick), Harmony Green(Jacob Sorrells), and Kassidy Green(Wil White). He was also a grandfather to several great-grandchildren and other distant family. Charles Green was born on October 14, 1934, to his late parents Alice and Joseph Green. He spent his formative years in Elba, Alabama with his two brothers learning about hard work, and getting an education for himself. Like many in this time period, he came from poverty but often spoke of that time in his life highly as he knew that it made him successful throughout his lifetime. Upon completion of high school, he joined the Air Force and worked his way up to be ranked as a senior master sergeant. He was proud of his career in the Air Force and also spent much time speaking of how he would’ve been a different person without his military experience. In July of 1954, Charles was so interested in a woman that he traveled from Elba, Alabama to Montgomery, Alabama to formally meet a woman named Shirley Weathers. It was believed to be love at first sight. While Charles was away at basic training for the US Air Force, he and Ms. Shirley continued to correspond via handwritten letters, and the rest was history. On November 12, 1955, Mr. Charles Reginald Green married this sweet lady, and she became Mrs. Shirley Weathers Green. Charles had 4 boys whom he loved so dearly and had a fierce desire to protect. He was a strong and faithful husband, father, and friend. He loved to fish, and be in the outdoors, but he also greatly enjoyed his time working with computers and radios. Charles was a man who embodied the meaning of taking care of business. He would and did do everything in his power to help his family and friends in times of hardship. His love was steadfast and unconditional. The family would like to thank the team at Jackson Hospital who helped to advocate and tirelessly care for Mr. Green. Their devoted efforts to his care made all the difference to his quality of life and even allowed him to come home for a few days.
A visitation for Charles will be held Sunday, February 23, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at White Chapel, Funeral Home, 909 Lincoln Road, Montgomery, AL 36109. Following the visitation will be a graveside service at 3:00 PM at Greenwood Serenity Memorial Gardens.
