Charles Evans Cline, 92, of Montgomery passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014 at his home in Montgomery. Mr. Cline, known as Charlie, was born October 25, 1921 in Bay Minette, Alabama to Arthur Milton and Estelle Christine (Weatherford) Cline. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Jennings Evans Cline of Knoxville, TN; his sister Ruby Louise Armstrong, brother-in-law W.D. Armstrong; niece Kristen Vinson of Bay Minette; half-brother Curtis Cline of LaGrange, GA; half-sister Florine Smith of Oakville, WA; brothers-in- law James Smith of Waurika, OK and Bernest Cain of San Antonio, TX, and several uncles and aunts. Mr. Cline served in World War II in the Army Air Corp. He received his education at the University of Oklahoma, where he received a degree in Journalism. He was a faithful member of the Dalraida Church of Christ, where he served as an Elder for over 40 years. His working career was spent as Editor and Publisher for the Hatton-Brown Company. Charlie was an avid reader and had a passion for Creek Indian history, speaking to various groups sharing this history. For many years, he enjoyed fishing with his buddies, George McGough, Jack Turner, Bill Sims, and Clyde Donegan. He and his wife Beth, enjoyed many years of traveling through-out the country seeing many memorable sights. He will be remembered for his wisdom and compassion for others. He is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Irma Beth; his children: Charleen Beth Read (David) of Brandon, MS, Sherman Weatherford Cline (Becky) of Dickson, TN; daughter-in-law Barbara Cline of Knoxville, TN; 7 grandchildren: Lisa Cline of Burlington, VT, Gabrielle Snell (Jeff) of Knoxville, TN, Brian Read (Chantelle) of Keller, TX, Ashley Wilson (David) of Farmers Branch, TX, Christopher Read of Brandon, MS, Rachel Ann Hedge (Chris) of Dickson, TN, Evans Cline (Holly) of Dickson, TN. He is also survived by 7 great grandchildren: Noah, Asher, and Eli Read, Rhett Wilson, Charlie and Sophia Hedge, Olivia Cline, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Monday, March 31, 2014 at Leak Memory Chapel with visitation at 10 am. Minister Doug Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
