Carolyn Turner Young, a resident of Montgomery, departed her earthly home on Saturday, November 29, 2014. She was a beloved and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Carolyn is survived by her husband James H. Young, a son James Thomas, daughter-in-law Jennifer Baxendell Young, and three grandchildren: Carolyn Elizabeth, James William, and Jeremy Thomas of Alexandria, Virginia.
Carolyn was a CPA and the first female partner with Jackson, Thornton and Company. After retirement in 1989, she was able to fulfill her desire to attend college. Entering Huntingdon College, Carolyn earned a B.A. in English. She then pursued postgraduate work at Auburn University of Montgomery, earning a Master’s of Liberal Arts. Carolyn served as a volunteer Treasurer for Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts for many years. Carolyn was a member of the Francis Marion Daughters of the American Revolution, and a member of The First Baptist Church.
Carolyn was born to John Polk Turner and Eunice Wilma Hagin on March 1, 1927 in Gadsden, Alabama in the house which had been her parents wedding present from her grandfather. Carolyn’s paternal grandparents were William Ayers Turner and Mattie Kate Miller. Her maternal grandparents were John Tyler Hagin and Mattie Viola Griffin.
Carolyn also had an older sister, Martha.
Services are to be held at Leak Memory Chapel on Dec. 6, 2014 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Kenny Hoomes presiding. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers are Lanny Crane, Ed Sauls, George Smith, Jerry Mitchell, Terry Mitchell, and Dennis Fain.
