Carl Anthony Johnson Sr. was called to his eternal rest on August 11, 2021, reunited with his life-long love, Lois Letitia Johnson (died June 19th, 2019). He was born on May 31, 1950, in Bessemer, Alabama, to the late William Collier Chaney and the late Althena Verdell Johnson. He was the oldest of three siblings.
Growing up in the greater Birmingham area, Carl was raised by a host of family and loved ones, who helped to forge him into a great man of foundational principles. Graduating from Wenonah High School (Birmingham, AL) in 1968, Carl was instilled with a mindset of self-sufficiency and a “work hard” mentality that led him to a life-long career with Alabama Power. Throughout his extensive career, Carl served over 40 years with Alabama Power, operating as a lineman and heavy equipment operator.
God’s path led Carl to meeting Lois Letitia Thompson in Mobile, AL. They were united in marriage in 1976 and established a home life in Montgomery, AL. Three years later, Carl Anthony Johnson Jr. was born. During their 43-year marriage, Carl and Lois served as faithful stewards of their community by volunteering their time, resources, and spiritual council to their church, neighborhood, and especially to children of Montgomery Public Schools.
Carl excepted Christ at an early age, and later emerged into an enduring man of faith. As a lifetime member of United Lutheran Church, he served as a church elder, ministering to his church family and local community. A quiet man of few words, Carl gave voice to his faith through his actions and efforts. He was a beacon of professing that having a strong foundation in Christ and living by Godly principles were the true keys to happiness and prosperity.
He was proceeded in death by his grandfather (Prentis Johnson), Grandmother (Mamie Tunstull), Father (William Collier Chaney), Mother (Althena Verdell Johnson), and beloved wife (Lois Letitia Johnson). Carl leaves to cherish his memory a loving son, Carl Anthony Johnson Jr. (Jorielle), Montgomery, AL; one brother, Roy Johnson (Ora), Las Vegas, NV; One Sister Sandra Nelson (Eugene), Detroit, MI; one brother-in-law Brice L. Thompson Jr. (Sadie), Montgomery, AL; one sister-in-law Marilyn A. Johnson, Philadelphia, PA; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
