Bill Gary Lambert went to be with the Lord on June 19, 2023 surrounded by his wife and children. Bill was born in Kinder, Louisiana on October 19, 1938, the 5" of six sons born to Hubert Wesley and Ida Rozalpha Lambert. He graduated from Kinder High School where he was active in the Future Farmers of America serving as State of the Louisiana President in 1957-1958. He graduated from Louisiana State University in 1961 with a degree in Agricultural Engineering.
After receiving a draft notice from the Selective Service, he joined the Air Force in 1961. His military service was extended to six years due to the Vietnam War. He married Phyllis Ann Fortenberry June 29th 1963. Three of the six years of military service were spent in Japan at Tachikawa Air Force Base. He was also responsible for communications and Air Traffic Control on the island of Iwo Jima. He attained the rank of Captain in the field of Communications.
After leaving military service in 1967 Bill was employed by American Telephone and Telegraph company, first in Memphis, Tennessee then in 1968 he was moved to Montgomery, Alabama. Here he earned a Masters in Education degree from Troy State University and a Masters in Business Administration from Auburn University in Montgomery. Bill self studied and became a Pension Actuary and was in the retirement planning business for twenty seven years.
Upon his retirement he was able to pursue his real passion which was International Missions. Bill went on over sixty mission trips to Africa, Mexico, Peru, Central America and especially to Brazil. He shared God's love as he helped drill wells, help with medical missions and helped construct church buildings so that people would have a place to worship. In 2006 he was Alabama's Mission Volunteer of the year.
Bill was active in First Baptist Church, Montgomery since 1968. Hé served as a deacon, greeter, usher and member of various committees. He also taught US Citizenship classes. More than fifty of his students have become citizens.
Bill was a loving husband, Dad and Papa to his five grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter, Valerie Latawiec, son Brian (Ashley) Lambert; grandchildren Dylan Latawiec, Cole (Alexis) Lambert, Emily Lambert, Molly Lambert, Katy Lambert; his brothers Roy (Doris) Lambert and Neal (Edna) Lambert; sisters in law Carolyn Lambert and Dolly Lambert; brother in law and sister in law John and Rachel Evans and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Friday June 23, 3:30PM at First Baptist Church Montgomery, AL.
