Benjamin Anthony Hagler, 47, of Montgomery, passed away at home on December 25, 2017. Ben was born on February 17, 1970 in Montgomery, to Joe and Katherine Timmerman Hagler. He is survived by his wife, Lindsey Smith Hagler, his parents, and his brother, William “Bill” Hagler, all of Montgomery. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Ruby and Otis Hagler and Lillian and Frank Timmerman.
Ben was a 1988 graduate of Jefferson Davis High School in Montgomery, Alabama, and attended the University of Alabama. He played on the tennis team in both high school and college.
Ben was an avid music fan, and started playing the drums and singing in bands at an early age and played in many groups over the years. He was well known throughout Alabama for his enthusiastic performances and unique vocals. Ben was influenced by a variety of artists. He turned his talent and music knowledge into a career, becoming a well-known radio personality in the Montgomery area, most recently with Bluewater Broadcasting, where he worked for the past 14 years. Ben also co-hosted a radio news morning program and often joined his father on his long-running tv show, Good Afternoon Montgomery. His voice was well-known in the area, and he served his community by often performing for area charities such as Toys for Tots and the Montgomery Humane Society.
Ben was a devoted fan of the University of Alabama football team and greatly enjoyed attending games with his father, brother, wife, and friends. He loved his family tremendously and cherished his wife, Lindsey, and counted thousands as friends. Ben was a kind and generous friend, and truly never met a stranger. He touched many through his music and his warm and boisterous on-air personality. His passing will leave a void in the Montgomery music and broadcasting community.
Pallbearers will be John Mosley, Bo Walker, Rick Pestrichelli, Jamie Martin, Costas Katechis and Bert Loeb. Honorary pallbearers will be all employees of Bluewater Broadcasting and Bill Kennedy.
Funeral services will take place at Frazer Methodist Church on Friday, December 29, 2017 at 11:00AM. Visitation with the family begins at 10:30AM. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Ben’s memory be made the Montgomery Humane Society, the American Heart Association, or the charity of your choice.
