Barbara Anne Williams, age 86, of Franklin, Tennessee passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2022. Barbara was born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama and often talked of all the fun she had growing up as the oldest of three children. She graduated from Sidney Lanier High School where she met the love of her life, Glenn Williams. They married in 1957 and went on to raise their two children, Steve born in 1959 and Shannon born in 1962, in Montgomery, as well.
Through the years, Barbara worked as a secretary for the Montgomery Public School system at Bellingrath Junior High School and Head Elementary School. This job allowed her to have the same holidays and summers off as her children. She enjoyed her days as a Cub Scout Den Mother and her camping adventures with the Girl Scouts. Later she worked at Gunter Air Force Base with the Department of Defense. She held the position of Vice-President of Auto-Sav Tires where she helped Glenn run his business on the Atlanta Highway.
Barbara was a member of Dalraida United Methodist Church. She sang in the choir, helped prepare communion, and managed the dining out group for a number of years. She spoke often of the many friends that she and Glenn made through Dalraida.
She loved vacations at the beach but, most of all, she enjoyed traveling to see her children and grandchildren. The family was blessed to be able to spend most holidays and special occasions together.
Barbara was an avid reader and had fun meeting with her book club ladies each month.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Theodore and Mattie Louise Hanke; her husband of 61 years, Henry Glenn Williams; her son, Stephen Marc Williams; her brothers, John Benton Hanke and William (Bill) Robert Hanke; and her brother-in-law, William (Billy) P. Williams.
She is survived by her daughter, Shannon Williams Norwood (Andrew); her daughter-in-law, Treby McLaughlin Williams; and four grandchildren, Robert Glenn Norwood, Patrick Andrew Norwood (Jade), Charlotte Morris Williams and Anna Davis Williams. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Marcia Hanke, Dale Hanke, and Diana Williams.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers or contributions, the family asks that you perform a random act of kindness in her memory.
